The society's holdings include a diary kept by a Danville girl at the close of the Civil War, a group of notebooks belonging to a Danville woman, World War I photographs and memorabilia, and a scrapbook about a state mental hospital once located in Danville. Miscellaneous materials include a plat of Danville (1785) along with an indenture selling the town for five shillings, a letter from Henry Clay to John Green of Danville, photographs of Danville near the turn of the century, and correspondence, clippings, postcards, receipts, and other unprocessed papers. There are also two scrapbooks with Danville clippings (1951-1954, 1973-1974).

Isaac Shelby, Kentucky's first governor, was born in Maryland in 1750. As a young man, he served in Lord Dunmore's War and the Revolutionary War, from which he emerge as one of the heroes of the Battle of King's Mountain, South Carolina. Following the war, he and his bride, Susannah Hart, moved to Lincoln County, Kentucky, where he quickly became a leader in Kentucky politics.
